Muscat Governorate
Muscat Governorate is the capital of the country, overlooking the sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean. It has the highest population density among all governorates. It includes six wilayats: Muscat as the governorate centre, Muttrah, Seeb, Bausher, Al Amerat and Quriyat.
Al Dakhiliyah Governorate
It is located in the geographical depth of the Sultanate of Oman. Al Dakhiliyah Governorate played an influential role throughout the Omani history. It is endowed with many historical, cultural and tourist attractions. It includes nine wilayats: Nizwa as the governorate center, Bahla, Manah, Al Hamra, Adam, Izki, Samail, Bidbid and Al Jabal Al Akhdar.
Al Sharqiyah North Governorate
It overlooks the inner side of the Eastern Hajar Mountains and is bordered from the north by Muscat Governorate, from the west by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate and by Al Sharqiyah South Governorate from both the east and the south. The governorate includes seven wilayats: Ibra as the governorate center, Al Mudhaibi, Bidiyah, Al Qabil, Wadi Bani Khalid, Dima and Al Tayyin, and Sinaw.
Al Sharqiyah South Governorate
It is considered as the northeastern front of the Sultanate of Oman overseeing the Arabian Sea from the east. The governorate includes five wilayats: Sur as the governorate center, Al Kamil and Al Wafi, Ja’lan Bani Bu Hassan, Ja’lan Bani Bu Ali and Masirah.
Dhofar Governorate
Dhofar Governorate is located in the far south of the Sultanate of Oman. It is of historic significance and held a very special place in the Omani history. It was Oman's huge gateway to the Indian Ocean and the caravan crossing in southern of the Arabian Peninsula. Dhofar Governorate is famous for its seasonal climate, which is known locally as "Khareef". The governorate includes ten wilayats: Salalah as the governorate center, Taqah, Mirbat, Rakhyut, Thumrait, Dhalkut, Al Mazyona, Maqshan, Shaleem and Al Hallaniyat Islands ,and Sadah.
North Al Batinah Governorate
This governorate extends on the southern coast of the Sea of Oman. It is characterized by its economic potential as it is the home of one of the largest agricultural plains (Al Batinah Plain). It is also known for the variation of mineral resources that leads to the establishment of vital industries. The governorate includes six wilayats: Sohar as the governorate center, Shinas, Liwa, Saham, Al-Khaboura and Al-Suwaiq.
South Al Batinah Governorate
It extends between the Sea of Oman in the east and the Western Hajar Mountains in the west. It has the most famous springs of hot mineral water in Oman. Due to its geographical location and economic potential, it has played an important role in the Omani history. The governorate includes six wilayats: Al-Rustaq as the governorate center, Al-Awabi, Nakhl, Wadi Al-Maawil, Barka and Al-Musanna.
Musandam Governorate
Musandam is distinguished by its strategic location in the far north of the Sultanate of Oman on the Strait of Hormuz, the most important international waterway for oil exports and trade both at the Regional and International levels. About 90% of the GCC countries' oil exports pass to the outside world through the strait, which is also known as the eastern gateway to the commercial traffics from and to the Gulf countries. The Strait also serves as the gateway between the Gulf and the open seas, the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean. Musandam Governorate includes three islands: Salama and Banat Salama Island, Umm Al-Ghanam Island and Musandam Island. The governorate includes four wilayats: Khasab as the governorate center, Diba, Bukha and Madha.
Al Buraimi Governorate
Al Buraimi is located in the northwest of the Sultanate of Oman and known for the variation of its water resources (wadis and Aflaj). It includes many forts and castles, most importantly Al-Khandaq, Al-Hilla, "Bait Al-Nad", Al-Khubaib and others. The governorate includes three wilayats: Al Buraimi as the governorate center, Mahdhah and Al-Sininah.
Al Wusta Governorate
Al Wusta overlooks the Arabian Sea from the east and the Empty Quarter desert from the west. The governorate is famous for its oil and gas fields and for being one of the global economic destinations. The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD), which is one of the key drivers of the national economy, hosts a number of mega projects such as the Dry Dock Complex. The governorate includes four wilayats: Haima as the governorate center, Mahut, Duqm and Al Jazer.
Al Dhahirah Governorate
links the Western Hajar Mountains with the Empty Quarter desert. Jabal Al-Kur connects the Governorate to Al Dakhiliyah Governorate from the east. It has many oil and gas fields. The governorate includes three wilayats: Ibri asthe governorate center, Yanqul and Dhank.
